Oracle 11gR1 ( installation on AIX POWER7 fails with JDK core

Oracle 11gR1 ( install on AIX P7 fails with JDK core dump (when tried with OUI as well silent install)

This is a known Bug#9216848, which is described in Metalink Note ID 1065579.1. Workaround is to use the JDK provided in this patch & then install the software with following command line

runInstaller -sourceLoc /dbinstall/clusterware/stage/products.xml PREREQ_CONFIG_LOCATION=/ora_install/stage/prereq/clusterware


dbinstall – is the 11gR1 install media
ora_install – is the location, where this patch is unzipped.

Steps are well defined in the patch readme.

Before using this patch I’ve tried installing IBM JDK 1.6, but it does not fix the problem.

Also, after installing this patch, runInstaller works & I managed to install 11gR1 (, but other utilities like dbca, srvctl does not work and throw similar stack.

If anyone have cracked the problem, can post the solution here.

    There are errors in the Oracle patch document, the right steps should be:
    1. unzip the patch file
    2. runInstaller from the patch file folder, give the sourceLoc to the, installed with software only.
    3. runInstaller to install the patch file to the same Oracle home as, it will upgrade the OUI and JDK.
    4. run netca and dbca from the oracle home.

    1- First solution is same as
    Export the environment variable JAVA_COMPILER=NONE and restart the OUI
    Note :- Disabling the JAVA_COMPILER will allow the OUI to run in it’s native mode, which is needed for the installation to succeed.
    2- Second solution is downloading the patch p9216848 and applying it according ReadMe.

    Note :- In meta link it is saying that this issue also this issue will not also be solved if we will use java 1.5 SR8 and above but I checked in our environment that we are already using java 1.5 SR11.
