Oracle install on AIX 6.1 – Query Exception: RunningProcessException

I was trying to install Oracle 10gR2/11gR1 on a AIX 6100-05 box, which was LPAR created on an IBM BLADE.

Started getting following error

Query Exception: RunningProcessException
Query Exception Class: class oracle.sysman.oii.oiil.OiilQueryException
INFO: null
Oracle Universal Installer has detected that there are processes running in the currently selected Oracle Home.
The following processes need to be shutdown before continuing:

IBM.AuditRMd
IBM.CSMAgentRMd
IBM.DRMd
IBM.LPRMd
IBM.ServiceRMd
aixmibd
hostmibd
inetd
rmcd
sendmail
snmpdv3ne
snmpmibd
srcmstr
syslogd
vxconfigd.6.1
vxesd

This silent installation was unsuccessful.

I’ve done similar install many times on other AIX setups, but never seen this problem before. So the checked metalink, if this is a known issue.

This was a Bug # 3823729 in 10gR1, which use to fail for some Java related processes (described in document ID 975597.1).

Solution is to rename existing fuser file (fuser command somehow returns wrong information to the installer, which we need to disable).

cd /usr/sbin/
mv fuser fuser.orig
touch /usr/sbin/fuser
chmod +x /usr/sbin/fuser

Applied same fix in this case, it worked.

Restore the original fuser binary, after installation.

    Hi,

I presume from your post that you have Oracle 11gR1 now running on AIX 6.1.5? We’re trying to do that here G(LPAR on a Power 7 750), but the Universal Installer crashes out with a Java exception (UTE437).

If you’ve got it running, at least that shows we’re not attempting the impossible!

That’s is correct. It is due to the bug in P7 JDK. I’ve posted a similar problem in my post
