Database upgrade from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4

Database – Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.3
Platform – Sun SPARC Solaris 10 64-bit

I recently upgraded my Oracle RAC database to 10.2.0.4. Software upgrade worked fine. But after manually upgrading the database, Component ‘Oracle Database Server’ becomes INVALID

Oracle Database 10.2 Upgrade Status Utility 05-08-2008 21:20:08

Total Upgrade Time: 01:23:44

I’ve used following to fix the problem

SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.

SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
….
Database mounted.
Database opened.

Executed following scripts

SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql
SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql

Check the status of the components from DBA_REGISTRY. In most of the cases, it should fix the problem.

Another change after upgrading from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4
————————————————————————–

After upgrading from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 EM URL will change from http to https. Upgrade process will automatically implement SSL around DBConsole.

For example:

Original URL: http://test-serv1:5500/em/
After upgrade: https://test-serv1:5500/em/

  1. KrzysiekPP says:

Before @catproc you have to run “startup upgrade”, do you ?

  2. ybhandarkar says:

    Yes that’s correct.

    Pre-upgrade checks

    SQL> STARTUP UPGRADE
    SQL> SPOOL upgrade_info.log
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/utlu102i.sql
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET CLUSTER_DATABASE=FALSE SCOPE=spfile;
    SQL> SHUTDOWN

    Actual Upgrade

    SQL> STARTUP UPGRADE
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql

  3. Thanks for sharing your experience.
